Q: How much force will it take to impact mark (8) 1/8” tall characters into mild steel?
A: Depending on the grade of mild steel. Each character will require 1,200 to 1,500 lbs. So the total amount of force needed to mark all (8) character at one time would be 9,600 to 12,000 lbs. I would recommend one of CMT’s 8-10 ton Slide-A-Mark series impact markers with a “K” style holder.
