Model 288 not returning

Q: Model 288 not returning.

A: Haven’t had a non-returning 288 before. Not to say it can’t happen but it would be rare. Given that, the basic operation requires the air to push the piston back and blow out the key way until the rod is all the way home. This is a self cleaning key way and is designed to use return air to purge any loose chips or debris as it is returning. A few things that should be checked.

  1. Air pressure should be at least 30 psi (max 100).
  2. No flow control on return port, only on advance port (metering out) to slow the retract just a tad so it doesn’t slam back if you’re running high PSI.
  3. Check to see the valve you are using allows the air behind the piston to exhaust.
  4. Test this by removing the advance (rear) port air line completely and blow air in return port (closest to angle bracket).
If this works then you might have a air valve or line blocking air flow.

If not, you can always return and we will test within a few minutes of UPS dropping it off and fix anything on it in an hour and return to you. Each marker is test fired on a test marking stand before shipping but that is not to say something did not break or got in the fitting when piping.

Result: Air Pressure too low.
