Can I use my hand stamp in a press?

Published by Bernard Sparks on

Q- I have an R-Buster hand stamp for marking mild steel. I was only marking 25-50 parts per day.

My business has taken off and the volume is now over 200 per day. I would like to use a press to make the marking process more consistent and faster. Is it safe to use a hand stamp in a press holder?

A- Safe yes. Recommended no. The non character end of the hand stamp is drawn back (soft), if used in a press, you run the risk of the soft end mushrooming out and getting stuck. I would suggest getting a press style stamp.
