Air Impact Marking Press – marking on Round OD

Published by Marc Steele on

The PR88 3-ton air impact marking press can be used to mark on the OD of round parts. The Model 88 is offered as both a unit for integration and a complete marking station. This marking application uses the bench-top C-frame mounted model 88 with a custom fixture to support a thin metal band during the marking process.

The Classic Columbia Marking Tools 3 ton Model 88 air impact marker complete marking station comes with:

  • Model 88 3-ton air impact marker
  • C Frame Mount mounting
  • Air valve and timer
  • Palm Buttons (manual station – shown) or Field Bus I/O (automated station)
  • Air connection and FRL (filter, regulator, lubricator)
  • Fixture (optional)
  • Machine base (optional, not shown)

CMT’s custom designed fixture has a both a positive stop and round part support. In addition, the fixture is relieved to allow for easy part loading and unloading. The fixture can be removed and the station can be retooled for other applications.

(2) 1/8″ characters on 3 diameter ring

A flat die may be used to mark on a round surface. This will depend on the diameter of the part, and the character size. The curvature of the surface has to be less than the marking depth over the length of the mark. The 3″ diameter ring has the limited curvature to allow for the use of a flat die with (2) 1/8″ characters to be used to mark the surface.

The air impact marker station uses either dual operator buttons for manual station actuation, or a field Bus I/O for an automated cell. CMT designed fixtures provide a positive stop and/or custom shaped hardened backup detail. The result is a great deep impression in less time than any other marking methods. Lastly, Columbia Marking Tools’ PR88 also provides a great cost savings over other marking methods.
